We were told that the Young Men’s program needed to be updated as well, and we were to help the men with it. We were now the Young Women’s and Young Men’s righting committee.

It meant that not only did we have to do our research, but we also had to do their research with them.

It’s hard to explain, but the lady in charge didn’t trust that we would find all the articles that went with what we had been assigned. So the last couple of months, we had to look over each other’s work. Since there were 5 women on our team, that meant we had 5 times as much work as we needed.

Since I have had this calling for a while, I have marked all the magazines we have been given to study. I put tabs on them so the articles would be easier for me to find, and it made it quicker for me when I did the research I was asked to do. I was able to complete the assignment in less than 4 hours a day. Since I had to look over the 5 other women’s assignments, it went up to 8 hours a day. I can’t complete the work when my kids are home from school. I stay up late at night to get it done.

We were asked to rotate our work with the 2 men who had been added as well. That meant we would now have 7 times the work! I felt sick to my stomach! It had been hard enough to get it down to 8 hours a day. There wasn’t enough time in a day to do what we have been asked! The other ladies and I all looked at each other. No one said anything

Wednesday, May 17, 2000

With all the assignments added, I have been able to do them in less than 9 hours a day. I wondered how everyone else in my group was doing in the calling.

We had our monthly meeting. One of the men who had been called leaned over to me and whispered that he didn’t think it was right that we had to look over everybody else’s work, “I barely have enough time to do the research assigned to me, let alone check everyone else’s work to see if they have done it right! They will just have to accept what work I have been able to do! Then he added, “I have a full-time job and a family. This can’t be right!” I agreed. He wanted to say something to the lady in charge, but just like the rest of us, he went along with what was happening.

To make matters worse, I found an article that one of the ladies had missed. Since I had to bring it up, she got mad at me because she didn’t think the article went with her assignment. The other people on the committee looked it over and agreed with me. This only made her even more upset with me.

I am the only one with young kids. I am so tired of this calling! I was glad that the guy sitting next to me had voiced to me what I had been thinking all along. Since no one dares to speak up, I feel I have no choice but to keep doing the extra work.

Wednesday, April 19, 2000 When I went to the monthly YW meeting, 2 men had been added to our committee.
