I love being a grandma! They call me farmor.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Monday, February 7, 2011<\/strong><br><br>We finally went to court because of the car wreck that I was in. I was going to receive thirty-three thousand dollars. This was after everyone and everything was paid. <br><br>Richard handed me a check for $10,000. I said, &#8220;But it should have been more than that.&#8221; I wanted to see the court papers. Richard said he didn&#8217;t have them because they were at his work, but he would give them to me tomorrow. Then he told me to look at the check, and I could see for myself that it was written out by his lawyer friend. <br><br>He then told me to go put the check in the bank. I told him, after what happened with my inheritance, that I was going to put this check into an account of my own. He got mad and asked me if I didn&#8217;t trust my own husband, and said it wasn&#8217;t right for a husband or wife to have their own account. <br><br>I told him if he promised me it would stay there, for when I needed it, then I would do it. Of course, he promised that he wouldn&#8217;t touch it. <br><br><strong>Tuesday, February 8, 2011<\/strong><br><br>When Richard came home from work, he handed me a typed letter that was all italicized. So much for the lawyer, so much for the doctor, so much for my therapy, and so on. The amount I was to receive was $10,000. <br><br>I could have sworn it was $33,000. For a split second, I thought he could have typed this up himself. But he would never do something like this to me, so I believed him. <br><br>I then went to the bank and deposited the $10,000. Into our joint account. <br><br><strong>Friday, February 25, 2011<\/strong><br><br>Richard and I had talked about putting cement in the backyard. I called a few people to get an estimate.  For the work I wanted done, the cheapest I found was $3,000. I thought I&#8217;d better go to the bank first to get the cash for it. <br><br>When I got to the bank, to my horror, the money was gone! When I got home, I  called up Richard to ask what happened to the money, but he didn&#8217;t answer his phone. <br><br>As usual, he was working late. When he finally came home, I asked him what happened to the money. He said, &#8220;We have bills!&#8221; I asked what bills? You are making good money.  Why did you need to take it? I trusted you!&#8221; He got mad and repeated, &#8220;We have bills!&#8221; He scares me when he gets this mad, so I didn&#8217;t say anything more about it. <br><br><strong>Thursday, May 26, 2011<\/strong><br><br>Laila graduated from high school. When we came back, and I opened the door, I just about had a heart attack!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"472\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.annemettehowland.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/IMG_0418.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18266 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.annemettehowland.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/IMG_0418.jpg 472w, https:\/\/www.annemettehowland.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/IMG_0418-295x300.jpg 295w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 472px) 100vw, 472px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p><br>Richard had arranged for another surprise party for me to celebrate my 50th birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This time there were even more people than the last time. He even invited my mom and Arnie.<br><br><br><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though I was rattled and upset, I did my best not to let it show.<br><br>After everyone had left, I asked Richard why he had done that. I told him I thought I had made it clear that I never wanted him to do that again. <br><br>He laughed and said, I did it because I love you so much. I just didn&#8217;t understand why he couldn&#8217;t understand that this was NOT what I wanted! I reasoned that he had done it because he was stupid. <br><br><strong>Monday, November 14, 2011<\/strong><br><br>I called my dad to see how he was doing. When he came to the phone, he asked who I was. I told him Anne-Mette. He responded, &#8220;I have a daughter named Anne-Mette, but she was kidnapped when she was a little girl.&#8221; I did my best to help him understand it was me on the phone. I could tell he had Alzheimer&#8217;s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When he finally realized it was me, it was as if he had finally found me after all these years. He cried out of sheer joy. After talking to him for a little bit, I told him I had to go. He started to cry. Then he said, &#8220;You can&#8217;t hang up! We finally found each other!&#8221; I talked to him for a little bit longer. <br><br>I knew this would be the last time I would ever talk to him again. It was so heartbreaking to say goodbye to him. <br><br><strong>Wednesday, January 18, 2012<\/strong> <br><br>Uncle Sonny called to tell me that my dad had passed away. <br><br>I was the only one mentioned in his will. I got $10,000. I figured since Beth had to share her dad&#8217;s inheritance with me, it was only fair I gave her half of what I got. <br><br>Kevin had lost his job. The money I gave them came at a good time. <br><br>Richard was bothered that I had given Beth half the money.<em> Over the years, he kept bringing it up. <\/em><br><br>He was also distressed that I had put my dad&#8217;s inheritance in a separate bank account. He kept telling me that he would never have done something like that to me. I told him I knew he wouldn&#8217;t. I just didn&#8217;t want the money to disappear when I turned around. Richard got upset. I told him it was nothing personal and that he was making good money, so it shouldn&#8217;t bother him that I had put it away for things that I had wanted for a long time.<br><br>I spent some of the money on a playhouse that I put in our backyard.
