Chapter 91 Y.W. Pamphlet

Wednesday, June 16, 1999

This month it’s been a year since I got my calling for the YW righting committee. This evening, during our usual monthly meeting, we were told that our hard work had finally paid off. Then we were each handed a pamphlet. This pamphlet was to be made available to all the Young Women leaders worldwide. It would help them have resources when they prepare their lessons.

On the back of the pamphlet, it said it was made by the Young Women’s General Presidency. There was also a big picture of the 3 women. It had each of their names under the picture.

I was stunned because the ladies I was working with on the committee were the ones who had done all the work! The Y.W. General Precedency attended our very first meeting, but we never saw them again! The Precedency had signed off on our work before it had gone into the pamphlet, but that was all the work they had done. I noticed the other ladies on the committee; they too, were looking to see if their names were on the pamphlet. We all looked at each other as if we knew what we were thinking, but no one said anything.

When I got home, I was troubled to find out that we were nowhere mentioned in the pamphlet. For the first time, it made sense to me why we were to keep our calling a secret. We had done hours of work! We had all sacrificed so much of our time, and they got all the credit!

I kept the pamphlet for a few years. Every time I would look at it, it made me mad. I thought maybe it was because I was prideful. I realized it was because they weren’t honest about who had made it, so I threw it away.

In my calling, we have been asked to work on a new pamphlet. It is still as overwhelming as it was before! It’s just as many hours of research, and I am still trying to recover from surgery. Since I have been in bed so much, my leg has gotten stiff. The doctor wants me to start going to physical therapy. If I don’t, my leg will never be able to bend again.

I went to my first therapy appointment. It is all the way downtown. I don’t want to take time to drive that far, so I canceled next week’s appointment. Now I am trying to walk up and down the stairs a little more each day. It’s painful, but I have to do it so that I won’t have a stiff leg the rest of my life.
