Chapter 132 iPad

My Uncle Sonny knew how much I missed and loved Danish songs and music. He made it possible for me to get some of them on my computer. Even though I never seem to have time to sit by my computer and watch one of the movies, I could still hear the songs when I was close by. They helped me feel less homesick.

When Jared saw this, he helped me put some of the songs on a CD so that I could listen to them all the time. I am so grateful to Jared for doing that for me!

It’s been hard to juggle work, homeschooling, and my calling in Young Women’s! I couldn’t do it without the help of Johny and Laila.

Laila always has dinner ready for us when Richard and I come home from work. One day this week, when we came home, she had even made pumpkin pie. The whole house smelled so good!

Saturday is the only day I have to catch up on the things I need to do, so I was running around the house to try to get it all done. When I went into the kitchen and ran around the corner. I had not seen that Richard had put a 5-gallon bucket of wheat on the floor. I tripped over the bucket and landed on my shoulder. It was painful!

When I stood up, I could tell I had dislocated my shoulder. I had to go to the emergency department. When Richard and I got to the hospital, he said he had to do something and left.

When the nurse came in, she told me to take off my shirt. I was in so much pain, so I asked her if she could help me with it. She seemed upset about having to help me, so she yanked my shirt over my head. The movement put my shoulder back into place.

I could tell my shoulder was better, so I wanted to go home. The Doctor insisted I stay so they could X-ray it. I wished I had been brave enough to leave because I knew getting X-rayed would be expensive. After I was X-rayed, sure enough, the doctor could see that my shoulder was in its place.

This evening, when I got to YW, Cindy asked me to help out with an elaborate Christmas event for the ward’s youth.

Since I already have so many things going on, I started to cry. Usually, I don’t mind helping out, but with working and keeping up with homeschooling, keeping my house clean, doing my Y.W. lessons on Sundays, and coming to the Young Women’s activity on Wednesdays, it was more than I could handle.

I let Cindy know I had been wanting to talk to her about getting released from my calling. She seemed to understand.

Johny went with me to do some errands. The radio played a Christmas song. I hurried and turned the station. Johny asked me why I had done that.

I told him because I feel bad that we can never seem to afford Christmas. Johny said it’s okay, Mom, Christmas is more than just presents. At least we can enjoy the music and make some happy memories together.

I will forever be grateful he said that. From that moment on, I felt differently about hearing Christmas music. Christmas is truly more than just the presents.

Even though we couldn’t have an elaborate Christmas, and Sarah wasn’t able to be with us, it helped me realize that I still had so much to be grateful for.

We got the hospital bill in the mail today. Since we don’t have insurance, it was $2000.00

Richard and I have talked about selling our house. It looks like the market isn’t good, so we wouldn’t make much on it, and we would still need to find another place to live.

I want to get out of debt. Even with me working, it will take time. I hate to see the interest that gets added on.

All I want to do is stay home and be with my kids, but it looks like it will be a while before that’s possible.

We are still getting food from the church to make ends meet. I feel so pathetic.

The Relief Society President brought over Christmas presents from members of our ward. I hate that we are not in a better place financially by now!

Jared has a job. He was excited to give me the present that he had bought for me. It was an iPad. I had never seen one before and didn’t know what it was.

Richard took the iPad. As he was looking it over, he said, “No one has ever given me such a nice present!” He seemed jealous of it. He asked me if I knew how much it was. Since I wasn’t even sure what it was, I had no idea how much it cost.

Richard seemed in disbelief that Jared had bought me such an expensive gift. I assured him that if Jared had thought of something he would have liked, I was sure he would have bought it for him.

Later, Jared helped me download all my Danish movies and music from the computer. Now I can watch the movies and listen to the music whenever I want! Now that I understand what the iPad can do, I am excited about it! It seemed too good to be true!

It’s the nicest present I have ever received in my life!
