Chapter 141 Blood Clot

Friday, February 20, 2009

Sander called from prison. Since I didn’t answer the phone, he left a message saying he wanted the money he claimed I owed him from Bent’s inheritance.

I wrote Sander a letter itemizing everything I had paid for while he had been staying with us when our uncle was here. I reminded him he had said he would pay me back.

I also added the hospital bill from when he had broken my cheekbone when we lived in Canada.

I knew he would never pay me. I had written him the letter just to be obnoxious. I let him know that he didn’t have to pay it all at once.

I wrote him a long letter about the abuse I had suffered from him over the years. I knew the letter wasn’t going to do any good, but it helped me feel better.

Mom called me up to tell me that Beth had given her some of the money that she had inherited. She wanted to know how much I was going to give her. I let her know I wasn’t going to give her anything.

She got upset and told me that when she died, I was not going to inherit anything from her. She was going to make sure that Beth was the only one mentioned in her will. I told her I was fine with that.

Shortly after, Beth called me. Since I didn’t answer the phone, she left a message saying to call her back.

I sat down and wrote Beth a letter saying I didn’t want to talk to her. I put the 5 Canadian dollars in the letter. I told her she could give it back to Kevin.

I let her know I had taken the $5.00 to the bank to try to convert it to American money. It wasn’t worth it because converting it cost so much. Since the Canadian dollar was worth less than the American dollar, there would be nothing left.

I got a letter back from Beth. It had a lot of pages! I opened the letter. I didn’t read it. Instead, I put it in the shedder.

Henry called to tell me that Sander has been moved to the prison in Arizona. Now they were just waiting for an agent to be available to escort Sander back to Denmark. We talked for a little bit, then I thanked him for keeping me updated.

Jared and his wife came over to help us remodel our kitchen. We have taken out the floor and the kitchen cabinets.

Jared, his wife *Emma, Laila, and I are getting the kitchen floor ready for the new vinyl.

Saturday, April 4, 2009

Jared, his wife, and their baby came over to plan a trip to Europe. I am going to pay for all of us out of my inheritance. We are all excited about going! I put on Facebook that we were going to Denmark.

My cousins in America and I had talked about going to Denmark together someday, but I never imagined it would be possible! When they saw I had posted that I was going to Denmark, they wrote to me and said they wanted to meet up with us when we got there. When we meet up, we are all going to visit our cousins in Denmark.

When Per saw on Facebook that we were going to Denmark, he put a comment that he lived in Copenhagen. He said, ” When you come, I would love to show you around.” We were all excited about it.

From all the remodeling that we had been doing in the kitchen, my back started to hurt. I went to see the doctor today. The doctor gave me some painkillers and told me to rest for a few days.

Thursday, April 9, 2009

My back hurt so bad that I ended up spending 3 days in bed. My leg started to swell up. I went back to the doctor and showed him my leg. He banged on my knee, and since my reflexes worked, he told me I was fine. Then he gave me some more painkillers.

Friday, May 1, 2009

The pain in my leg became unbearable! My leg was so swollen it felt like it was going to explode! I couldn’t walk or stand on it. Something was seriously wrong with it. I called up Jared’s wife, Emma, to ask if she could take me to the hospital. Emma came right away.

At the hospital, they took some ultrasounds of my leg. I could tell the technician looked concerned. She told me to go home and wait for my doctor to call me.

I thought if it was an emergency, they wouldn’t send me home. But they did!

Emma brought me back to my house. She helped me get undressed and into my bed. She could tell I was in a lot of pain. She asked if I would be okay or if she needed to stay with me. I told her I just needed a nap. I thought that after I had slept, I would feel better. So Emma left.

Laila was in my room. I felt strange and didn’t want to be alone, so I asked her if she would stay by my side until I fell asleep. She lay down next to me. As I was trying to doze off, my whole body started to shake. I had gone into shock. I couldn’t talk. She got worried, so she called her dad. She described to him what was happening to me. She asked if she should call 911. Richard told her I would be fine and hung up on her.

Laila could tell I was not going to be fine, so she called him back to try to get him to understand that something was seriously wrong with me. He then called my friend Wendy to ask her if she would mind going to my house to check on me.

Wendy came right over. When she got there, she saw it was serious, so she called 911. A policeman was the first person to respond. He was a young man and very concerned about me. He kept stroking my bad leg to try to comfort me. I wasn’t able to tell him not to touch me because it was so painful.

While we were waiting for the ambulance to arrive, 2 fire trucks showed up. 4 firemen came into my bedroom to see if I was okay. Since there was a police car and two fire trucks in front of my house, neighbors started coming into my bedroom to see if I was okay.

All I was wearing was my see-through garment top. I couldn’t fit my bottom garment because my leg was so swollen, so I was wearing Richard’s. I was shaking so hard that my blanket had come off. Here I was, exposed in my bedroom full of people.

All of a sudden, Richard was by my side. He knelt next to me and said, “I’m here! I drove 100 miles an hour, I made it!” I was surprised to see him because he worked 30 minutes away.

The ambulance finally arrived. There was a big, heavy EMT who was putting wires on my chest. As he did so, he got comfortable and sat on me. I thought for sure he was going to finish me off! I tried to get him off me. Right when he sat on me, I could hear another EMT say, “We need to work fast, we are losing her!” The guy sitting on me said, “Ma’am, you need to hold still so I can finish putting these wires on because we are losing you!” I wanted to say, “Sir, you need to get your Big Fat Ass off of me, because you are KILLING me!” Since I couldn’t talk, all I could do was pray I’d make it!

As I was being carried out on a stretcher, I thought, this was the last time I was going through my front door. I wouldn’t get to see the finished results of my kitchen.

I hope as long as I live that I will never experience this much pain ever again!

Richard was told he couldn’t ride in the ambulance with me, so he followed behind. When I got to the hospital, the nurse told me to sign some papers. Here I was shaking so hard and couldn’t talk. Otherwise, I would have said, “Are you serious?!” Then another nurse came in, when she saw me, she said, “I know her, she used to work here, go ahead and treat her!” They gave me morphine and something else. It made my body stop shaking and lessened the pain. When Richard finally arrived, he signed the papers.

While I was there, I was told I had two blood clots in my leg. Because I had had the blood clots for so long, they didn’t know if they were going to be able to save my leg.

Saturday, May 2, 2009

They gave me shots to thin my blood. I was told I would need to have these shots for a while, so they showed Richard how to give them to me. He was more than happy to administer them to me.

A doctor from another hospital came to look at my leg. They still don’t know whether they’ll be able to save it.

Sunday, May 3, 2009

My leg was damaged from the blood clots, but it looks like I will be able to keep it. I was sent home from the hospital. I was still in a lot of pain!

I couldn’t put any pressure on my leg, so Richard had to carry me to and from the bathroom. He has to go to work tomorrow, and I need someone to take care of me.

Richard called my sister to see if he could bring me to her house. She said yes. He told her we would be on our way as soon as he had packed my belongings that I would need while I was there.

Emma called to see how I was doing. She offered that I could come to stay with her and Jared at her parents’ house. Then she would take care of me. Richard let her know I was going to my sister’s. I appreciated her offer very much!

Before I left, Johny told me that he would take care of me. The painkillers I was given put me to sleep. I told him I wouldn’t be able to stay awake to homeschool him, so he needed to go to public school. Johny promised he would take good care of me. I told him I knew that he would, but he needed to be in school.

I spent the week at Beth’s place. Neither Beth nor I said anything about the last time we were together.

Beth was concerned for me and did her best to take care of me. Beth was scared to give me the shots I needed. My niece K is now 13 years old. She told her mom that she would give them to me if she couldn’t. Then Beth said, “It’s okay, I will do it.” Even though it was scary for both of us, she did it.

K told me I could sleep in her bed. K slept on the floor next to me. She told me to wake her up at night when I needed to go to the bathroom so she could help me. K has been so sweet! She also made a schedule of when I was to take my medicine. As soon as K got home from school, she was my main caretaker.

During the week while I was staying at my sister’s, Laila, Johny, Richard, Jared, and his family came to visit me. It was so good to see them again!

I thanked Laila for staying with me the day I went into shock. If she hadn’t, I am sure I wouldn’t have made it!

Johny told me all about starting high school. He told me he didn’t like it because he doesn’t feel like he is learning anything. Hopefully, he will adjust soon.

By the end of the week, I was able to go to the bathroom with the help of crutches.

I was glad I had been able to spend the week with Beth and her family. It helped mend our relationship.

Sunday, May 10, 2009

The pain in my leg isn’t letting up. Part of me wished they had amputated it because it hurts so bad!

We had already bought our tickets to Europe. They are nonrefundable. I told my family they were welcome to go without me.

I let my cousins know I didn’t think I’d be able to go to Denmark after all. They told me I had to get better because I was the main reason they were all going. I was going to introduce them to our cousins in Denmark and translate for them. They have all bought their tickets. They told me it wouldn’t be the same without me.

Monday, June 1, 2009

I have been using crutches to get around, and a wheelchair when I go to the store. My leg is still in so much pain! I don’t know if it will ever be the same again.
