Sarah broke up with her boyfriend. She moved to Logan and is living with a new boyfriend.

They came home and spent some time with us over Thanksgiving. We had a nice time together.

Mom called to tell me that she and Arnie were coming to see us. I wanted to ask Mom if she could come out another day, since it was Christmas Eve, and I had planned to spend a quiet evening with just Richard, Laila, and Johny.

I knew Mom would get offended, so I told her they could come over. When we were done eating dinner, Mom told me about a program that she had watched about older siblings beating up on their younger siblings. Then she said, “It made me sad, and I wish I had known that Sander was beating on you.” I was floored!

I wanted to ask Mom what planet she was living on. She would have had to be deaf, dumb, and blind not to have seen and heard when Sander beat me. I couldn’t believe that she tried to convince me that she was nowhere around when this took place. It made me mad, but I didn’t say anything.

After Mom and Arnie had left, Richard asked me why I had not said anything to my mom about her remark. I told him I didn’t want to start a fight.

Sometimes I feel so helpless. I don’t know the right way to deal with it. I am glad Sander can never hurt me again. I just feel re-victimized when Mom shows denial about the whole thing.

We went to my sister’s place to celebrate Christmas. Beth thought I had invited Jared and his family, but I assumed, since it was her party, that she would have. Mom, Arnie, Kevin’s mom, and Dad were there.

Everything was nice until my mom decided to tell a story that happened 23 years ago. It is a story where she puts Richard down. The story has gotten worse over the years because she keeps adding things that never happened. I thought to myself, I can’t believe she was doing this! I wanted to stop her, but I didn’t know how. I thought that we would just have to endure the story one more time since she is mentally ill.

Richard could not sit and listen to the story one more time. He said, “Mette, you don’t need to tell this story. No one wants to hear it!” Mom responded, “You shut up!” Before I knew it, the two of them were yelling at each other. It was awful!

Beth and Kevin didn’t know what to do, so they went into the kitchen to clean up. Laila, Johny, and I went with them. Kevin’s mom and dad left. Mom started to cry hysterically because she was the victim and wanted sympathy. Since we were all ignoring Mom, she and Arnie left.

Richard, Laila, Johny, and I stayed for two more hours and visited. We were all traumatized by what had happened. I was glad that Jared and his family had not been there to witness what had taken place.

Emma doesn’t know my mom’s history, and this would have been hard to explain.

Now we are waiting for Mom to write a letter to the Prophet to try to get Richard excommunicated again.
